Detail
In the 1980s, physicist Klaus Halbach independently invented the Halbach array, which is a special arrangement of permanent magnets that augments the magnetic field on one side of the array while cancelling the field to near zero on the other side.
APPLICATION FIELD
Linear motors with high stiffness are directly connected to the load. There is no transmission gap and flexibility between the motor and the load. When the linear motor drives , iron cores linear motors show extremely high dynamic stiffness.
Motors and generators
Halbach arrays can be used to make more efficient and smaller motors and generators.
Magnetic suspension device
Stable magnetic levitation of objects can be achieved by utilizing the strong magnetic field on one side of the array.
Medical equipment
In magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), Halbach arrays can be used to generate a more uniform magnetic field.
WORKING PRINCIPLE
Halbach arrays is a special arrangement of permanent magnets that augments the magnetic field on one side of the array while cancelling the field to near zero on the other side. This is achieved by having a spatially rotating pattern of magnetisation.
Comparison of common magnet arrangement effect and Halbach array arrangement effect
PRACTICAL APPLICATION
2-stage Heilbech motor stator consisting of 16 magnets
Waveform and magnetic field distribution of the stator
The magnetic field is sinusoidally distributed, and the greater the number of magnets in each pole, the higher the degree of sinusoidal distribution.
Advantages:
• Reduce the harmonic of motor
• Enlarge air gap of motor
• Increased utilization of magnetic field
FEATURES
1、Asymmetry of the magnetic field
This is the most significant feature of the Halbach array. The magnetic field is strong on one side of the array and almost disappears on the 180-degree opposite side.
2、Local enhancement of the magnetic field
It is possible to generate a more concentrated magnetic field on one side of the array than conventional magnets.
3、The adjustability of the magnetic field
By changing the arrangement and size of the magnets, the magnetic field distribution can be adjusted.
